I can only describe what happened to me after executing the good deed as a blatant blessing from above. One of the calls I received that said night turned out to be from an H.R. manager that I had been stalking for 3 months. She just never returned any of my calls (maybe because of the whole stalking factor). Why was I so persistent in reaching out to this person? Well she only held the keys to one of the best companies in the U.S. to work for and by far the best place to work for in Florida (for what I do anyway....).
Before giving you the the final outcome of that call - I must say - that in EVERY situation you find yourself in you can always learn something from, and in some cases - you are even rewarded with new life long friendships. I can safely say - that both have been true from my last job experience. I would like to focus however, on a few of the people who made me look forward to going to work on a daily basis and the reasons for which I was able to "keep it together" as long as I did....
Now in every office there are many different character traits associated with different personalities. I have noticed that there are a few of these traits that I naturally gravitated towards. After giving it some thought - this is how I would categorize those positive traits:
Nurturers - I sat beside two of the most amazing ladies I have ever come across through the "work world." The type that always have your back, always advise you the best way they know how and most importantly - the type who knows you best in a world where being yourself is not always the best route to career development. Sharing laughs with you two on a daily basis made me look forward to coming to work! It was an honor to share the space with you both and I look forward to sharing many more laughs in the future....(I love you guys - M & V)
Confidants - As you know your confidant is someone or a group of people you can share information with that you KNOW won't get out and around the office. I had a few confidants - but there was one in particular that was just outstanding. How so? He listened with purpose utilizing his entire being. He is the type of person who puts himself on the line for the benefit of others. He spoke from his heart and genuinely wanted you to have the best possible outcome from whatever the situation. These types of people are difficult to find in the real world and even harder to find in the corporate world. I am elated to have met you and I cherished every second spent in your presence - It will never be forgotten. A truly good man you are, and I pray for your continued good health and happiness for many many years to come.(You have a life long friend in me - L.M.).
Motivators - Everyone knows the motivator. The person who inspires us all to want and be more. The person who is always excited to be there and wanting to make a positive difference. You know the type, the person who is in early and leaves late. The individual who seems to have it all together - always contributing great ideas as to how we could all be doing things better and more efficiently. The person who is driven to push forward even though there is no one on his/her tail. The person always striving to be better and wanting more. This type of person for me are important. Why? Because they are fueled by passion, and passion though sometimes misconstrued - if harnessed the right way - can have you living the life of your dreams. Thanks for reminding me about how powerful passion can be (You are an inspiration - S.W.).
In addition to these wonderful people, I have to mention that there were several others I looked forward to seeing everyday and benefited from having known them. All the people I shared laughs, lunch and life lessons with - You know yourselves - Thanks for being you. I may have closed this chapter of my life - but know that you will always be a part of my story....I love you all!
Now back to that final outcome of that call from the H.R. Manager as I promised. You may have figured it out by now but - I GOT THE JOB! And as of tomorrow - I will be starting my new journey which I hope to be a long, mutually beneficial and lucrative one. I feel like all my experiences have culminated to get me to where I am now, and it is my hope that this opportunity is all that I dreamed it would be. Thank you Lord, for guiding me, protecting me and showering me with all this love and abundance. My only hope is that I can live up to being the man you expect me to be. Amen.
WOW, simply amazing! Congrats and continued blessings. I know you have struggled and waited for this moment. Have a great first day!!
ReplyDeleteVin: Congrats my brother. Wish you all the best.
ReplyDeleteCongrats !!!
ReplyDeleteWell done Sir. You can't go wrong with bigger and better, I hear what you are saying about having people that you work with making the day that much better, however I find as you climb the corp ladder these people become few and far between.
ReplyDeleteAs they say it's lonely at the top. Always remember to fuel that passion that burns within, it'll get you through tough times which I know you are no stranger to. Keep up the great work.
Best
